Project Overview

If you've been in a bar, you've likely seen Taphandles work. As the U.S. leader in custom taphandles and towers, their products help beverage brands, from local breweries to global distributors, stand out in a crowded market. Expanding into international markets created the need for a new website that could speak to both large organizations and small breweries while showcasing their products in an engaging, memorable way.

Taphandles partnered with New Theory for design and development and with 51 Eggs for branding. Together, we set out to create a website that conveyed the craftsmanship and creativity behind their products while giving users an immersive, interactive experience.

Scope of Work

The project required building a highly interactive website that could showcase Taphandles products in a visually dynamic and engaging way. It needed to support international audiences with flexible translation tools, provide an immersive portfolio experience that brought their physical product to a life online. Together, these goals ensured the site would appeal to both large and small distributors while expanding Taphandles digital presence.

Approach

Working with 51 Eggs, we built on their narrative-driven brand strategy with a site design that highlights the process of make a taphandle, from sketch to render to finished product. Key interactive features included:

  • Scroll Sequence Animation: A dynamic animation where product images swap as users scroll, simulating a 3D view without heavy rendering.
  • 3D Carousel: A custom-coded extension of a 2D carousel using CSS perspective to create a true 3D browsing effect.
  • International Translation: Integration of WPML with ACF, allowing custom pages to be dynamically translated and edited by site admins.
  • Dynamic Filtering: A portfolio filter that lets users view the full catalog instantly, then narrow down by category or product type.

We also created a second e-commerce site on Shopify to match the main site for a seamless user experience.

Results

The final website gave Taphandles an immersive way to showcase products that are best appreciated in person. Visitors can now interact with Taphandles online, scrolling through the design process or spinning products in 3D, creating a sense of tangibility. The translated site expanded their international reach, while the Shopify storefront supported new sales channels. All together these updates set them up to better serve both the small breweries and the global beverage distributors at the heart of their brand.
